EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) is a specialized kind of treatment designed to help overcome traumatic and adverse experiences. If you are healing from a painful experience, EMDR can help you recover in ways that talk therapy alone cannot achieve.
What is an EMDR Intensive?
Traditional therapy happens in 50-minute increments, once a week. That rhythm works well for many people — but when healing from trauma, it can mean spending months just getting warmed up each session before touching the real material.
An EMDR intensive condenses that work into dedicated, extended blocks of time — a half day, a full day, or multiple days in a row. Because we're not stopping and starting, we can go deeper, process more, and move through what has felt stuck.
Is an Intensive right for you?
An intensive may be a good fit if any of these resonate:
You've been in weekly therapy and feel like progress has stalled or slowed
You're dealing with a specific trauma, loss, or adverse experience you're ready to move through
Your schedule makes weekly appointments difficult to maintain consistently
You're drawn to a focused, goal-oriented approach to healing
You're at a turning point — a transition, a grief, a moment where you're ready to do the work

Common questions about intensives
Do I need prior EMDR experience?
No. We'll spend time in the pre-intensive consultation preparing you and making sure the approach is a good fit. EMDR is accessible to most people, even those new to it.
What do I do between sessions in a multi-day intensive?
Rest, gentle walks, nourishing food, and limiting stimulation. Processing continues after sessions end — you'll want to protect your time and energy. I'll provide specific guidance before we begin.
Can I use insurance?
Intensives are self-pay only. I can provide a superbill if you'd like to submit for out-of-network reimbursement, though coverage for intensives varies by plan.
How do I know if I'm ready?
We'll talk through this together during the consultation. Readiness isn't about having everything figured out — it's about being willing to do the work. If you're curious, that's usually enough to start a conversation.
